Résumé : |
Positive teacher talk plays a major role in increasing students’ motivation. Therefore, the teacher should make language more comprehensible for students by providing positive feedback, giving them enough time to speak and establishing a supportive environment. Hence, these elements are very necessary to keep them more motivated. The present study aims at investigating the effect of positive teacher talk on students’ motivation and raising teachers’ awareness of how to develop their language/talk by using motivational strategies in EFL classroom. Thus, we hypothesized that if the teacher talks positively, then students’ motivation would increase. In order to verify this hypothesis, two questionnaires were administered to both first year LMD students and teachers of Oral Expression, Written Expression, Grammar and Phonetics. In the light of the results obtained, our learners are found to be motivated and most teachers speak positive language in the classroom by using aspects of positive talk. For this reason, we propose to less experienced teachers to adjust their talk to create suitable classroom conditions through giving effective explanation, asking different types of questions and providing corrective feedback. |
