The current study aims at verifying whether the summary of a movie story technique
improves the students’ speaking skill. It also aims at testing whether teachers of oral
expression would be interested in adopting this technique in their classes and to what
extent this technique motivates students to speak. Accordingly, we hypothesize that if
teachers use the technique of summarizing a movie story, then the students speaking skill
will improve. In order to test this hypothesis, two questionnaires were conducted. The first
questionnaire was administered to 25 teachers of oral expression in the English department
at Constantine University 1 and in the English department of the Teachers’ Training
School. The second was administered to 90 first year LMD students of English. The results
gathered from both questionnaires prove that teachers and students accept this new
technique and are motivated to experience it. They also believe that it will help them in the
teaching/learning of the speaking skill. |
