Résumé : |
Teaching grammar is a very difficult work since many teachers of grammar struggle about how to motivate their students in the class. Due to the crucial role that grammar plays in the process of language learning, there has been a contentious debate about it, starting from its definition to how it could be best taught or learned. Teachers of grammar at the University Des Freres Mentouri Constantine struggle about how to encourage their students to learn grammar in general and more precisely conditional sentences because they are an important part of the English language and students should know in which situations they can use them and what are the tenses needed in each type. The main purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between using rewards and student’s awareness of the different types of conditional sentences because they have some difficulties especially in their tenses’ use. We hypothesize that if teachers use rewards in their grammar classes, this will help second year students to be more aware of the use of conditional sentence. The research methods consist of a review of grammar teaching, conditional sentences and using rewards, coupled with the collection and analysis of empirical data. The latter is based on a descriptive study: data were gathered through a series of questionnaires (open-ended and close-ended questions): 16 questions administered to 40 students (second year) and 16 questions administered to 7 teachers of grammar at the university “Des Freres Mentouri”. The findings of this research provide evidence that the majority of students and teachers agreed that students are aware of the different types of conditional sentences and they think that it is important to know the different types of conditional sentences. They said that the major difficulty that faces them with conditional sentences is the use of tenses. Students highly appreciate when teachers use rewards in teaching especially in teaching grammar. Moreover, the vast majority of teachers confirm
that using rewards will help students to do better in their studies and to be more aware of the use of conditional sentences. The main conclusion drawn from this study is that using rewards have a fruitful impact on students’ learning, and they keep learners motivated, and encourage them to do their best in their studies. |

impact rewards words learners level |
Résumé : |
xpected to use English spontaneously and flexibly, to negotiate and express their intended meaning. The research methodology adopted in this study is a descriptive one. It intends to describe two variables: using rewards and praise words as the presumed independent variable and foreign language speaking as the presumed dependent variable, and to identify the relationship between them. Data were gathered through a series of questionnaires administered to a sample of 40 students (3rd year LMD) and delivered to 10 teachers of oral expression at the department of English, University of Constantine. The results of the investigation have shown that giving rewards and praise words encourages students to speak English and motivates them. Furthermore, the study is supposed to confirm the hypothesis; this positive outcome reflects the efficacy of praise words as extrinsic motivators, to help students improve their foreign language speaking performance. |

Résumé : |
Learning a language is a difficult process that requires a lot of effort and motivation.
This latter plays a primordial role in learners’ success in speaking English. This study aims at

classroom observation was conducted in ALKHALFA middle school in Mila for the purpose
of exploring the effect of teachers’ classroom practices on their pupils’ speaking
