Résumé : |
The goal of this study is to investigate whether the use of different speaking activities in oral
expression class could motivate students in foreign language classroom to speak or not. This
study is based on two questionnaires designed for teachers of oral expression and second year
LMD students of English in which we have selected two samples from two different
populations, the first sample included ten teachers of oral expression and the second one
consists of sixty students of second year. The obtained results from both teachers and students
questionnaires confirmed our hypothesis” if EFL teachers use different speaking classroom
activities in oral expression class, then second year LMD students in the university of Frères
Mentouri, Constantine will be motivated to speak in the classroom” in the sense that the
majority of teachers and students agreed that the use of different speaking activities has a
positive effect in motivating students to speak claiming that variation break the routine of the
classroom. |

Language Sciences. Out-of-Class Speaking Activities Speaking Performance |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
the present study we attempt to investigate the role of the-out-of-class
speaking activities in enhancing the students speaking performance. The main
concern of the study is second year students’ failure in conversations because of their
poor oral performance which is a result of several problems in the classroom that
leads them to create their own out-of-class speaking activities.
The hypothesis of this dissertation is: When students use more out-of-class
speaking activities, they may take advantages of the possibility of communication
offered by these activities and yet gain new vocabulary and grammar structures to be
used in classroom communication.
The research methodology adopted is descriptive. So, to identify the
relationship between the two variables of this study (out-of-class speaking activities
and the speaking skill), data were gathered through students’ questionnaire given to
50 of second year students at the department of English.
The results obtained show that the out-of-class speaking activities have a
positive impact on improving students speaking performance including (vocabulary,
grammar, pronunciation and fluency). Another important obtained result that has to be
mentioned is that most students show a sense of automaticity toward using these
activities, and they are not using them because they have difficulties when they try to
communicate in classroom situation. |
