Résumé : |
This dissertation is an attempt to spot light on the non-concurrence between spelling and
pronunciation. Spelling and pronunciation are considered as the common core of this study.
On the light of this, the following hypothesis is stated: « If students of English follow the
regular spelling pattern, their pronunciation will be error free».The work is divided into two
main chapters. The first one discusses and develops the concept of irregularity, the reasons
behind it and deals with the English spelling reform. The second chapter takes the form of a
practical test submitted to students in order to see the way they transcribe and spell words in
the English language. It aims at investigating the difficulties that may face students of English
when pronouncing and spelling. Furthermore, it focuses on the regular spelling pattern which
is used as a help when transcribing or spelling. From the results which will be obtained from
the analysis, some pedagogical implications will be recommended. |
