an interest in this phenomenon among salespersons and customers in a market. Our research refers to the characteristics of code switching in a specific place (a market: clothes section) and by specific persons (salespersons and customers). This work lies within the scope of sociolinguistics. It brings a small reflection on the functioning and characteristics of code switching. To test the hypotheses of this study, a recording is used as a research instrument. The theoretical part has the aim to present concepts concerning code switching and its distinction from other related language phenomena. The purpose of the practical part is to reinvest the theories exposed in the preceding part through the analysis of our corpus. The result of our study seems to support the hypothesis that code switching is used as a strategy of
communication at a market place in general and in clothes section in particular.Diplôme : Master 2 En ligne : ../theses/anglais/ZER1108.pdf Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/md/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4833 Code- Switching in the Conversation of Salespersons and Customers in Ain Smara Market (Clothes Section) [texte imprimé] / Nassima Zerroug, Auteur ; Karima Lakehal Ayat, Directeur de thèse . - Constantine : Université Mentouri Constantine, 2010 . - 66 f. ; 30 cm.

Français Résumé : In this research, we describe and analyze the linguistic practices of twelve Algerian young people. The purpose was to try to reveal the use of code switching between Algerian Arabic and French in the speech of these young
people.
Code switching has always been considered as negative way, like a mixture impure, like an incompetency of the spoken language. Our objective has been to show that the use of this process is not limited to this presentation, it goes
beyond that.
The analyze of the data allowed us to identify the attitudes, the representation and the linguistic consciousness when using code switching between Algerian Arabic and French. In addition, we were able to enhance the role that code
switching plays.
To sum up, this study has finally proved that the use of code switching is a rind of speech by which the young people speakers want to stand out from others.
They claim their rights to be recognized as individuals as a whole.

It analyses the importance relative to the phenomenon of code switching and the function it can take.
The approach was made by the collection of the natural data between the radio entertainer and the listeners (the audience).
The objective is to observe code switching in language use, where two varieties are present, and their effects over the language practice.
The analysis of the results has demonstrated that code switching has several functions; depending on situations in which the participants are, he desires to express an emotion, to get closer to the entertainer.
Finally, we have also shown in this dissertation (memoire) the existence of the cultural dimension that governs the choice of languagesDiplôme : Magistère En ligne : ../theses/francais/BOU1350.pdf Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/md/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=9511 Analyse fonctionnelle de l’alternance codique dans l’émission radiophonique NESS NESS [texte imprimé] / Imene Bouchagour, Auteur ; Gaouaou Manaa, Directeur de thèse . - constantine [Algérie] : Université Constantine 1, 2005 . - 122 f ; 30 cm.

The present study investigates children‘s switching between Modern Standard Arabic and Algerian Arabic. It aims at examining the mechanisms of diglossic switching, its functions and its structures, and whether the code used by the interlocutor affects the children‘s speech and choice of code. To attain these aims, a qualitative research is adopted using an ethnographic method with twenty-four (24) pre-school children aged from five to six (5-6)
years at ‗Dib Tahar‘ primary school at Elkroub, Constantine- Algeria. It is based on triangulation: participant observation, the teacher‘s and the children‘s interviews and the analysis of the artifacts. Data are collected using some tools namely: recordings and transcription using the International Phonetic Alphabets. The results obtained have revealed that pre-school children do switch between the varieties of Arabic in the class and may
deviate from the standard pronunciation of the Algerian words. They can produce different types of switching: intersentential, intrasentential and intra-word switching are very common in their speeches. Further, Children‘s choice of the code is not influenced by the code used by their interlocutor. When children know the structure and the words necessary for building well-structured and meaningful sentences in Modern Standard Arabic, and even if their teacher uses Algerian Arabic, they opt for the exclusive use of Modern Standard Arabic or they switch to Algerian Arabic for unknown words. Therefore, the results of the study have challenged Ferguson‘s definition of diglossia and called for reconsidering the separation of its domains. The results also have led to generating hypotheses that need to be tested in further research.Note de contenu :

Français Résumé : Verbal interactions are not mere verbal exchanges that occur among interactants for personal communicative purposes; they essentially represent communicative actions achieved by participants internalizing mutualinteractionalrules. In a similar vein, this research focuses on the analysis of verbal interactions accomplished in four Algerian TV programs: « Paroles de Femmes », « A Cœur Ouvert », « Bonjour d’Algérie » in the French speaking state channel ‘Canal Algerie’ as well as “ Controverse ” in the private TV channel ‘Dzair TV’. Hereafter, the audio-visual records of the mentioned TV programs have been orthographically and phonetically transcribed. This study aimed at examining the interactional and linguistic procedures
followed by participants to construct their cooperative TV discourse; it also aims to find out and describe the characteristics of local and global functioning of televised verbal interactions. To determine most of the constituent of media discourses, we have adopted an eclectic and multidisciplinary approach: mixing together anthropological, interactional, conversational, sociolinguistic, psychological and discursive approaches.
After the analysis of our corpus, the obtained results have shown that - the verbal interactions in the Algerian TV programs are essentially characterrised by discursive cooperation, shown through discursive completion, repletion, reformulation, interactional synchronisation, and code switching. -The code switching of French, Arabic (academicand Algerian Arabic), English and Berber is used by participants as a strategy of cooperation enabling them to deploy their linguistic capabilities for better mutual understanding. -Algerian media verbal interactions have an interactional plan which is rather ‘GlobalSpecific’ and which is different from other types of verbal interactions.
