Many scholars point out the difficulty of translating poetry either from English into Arabic or vice versa. Some of them claim that poetry is untranslatable and it is needless for the translator to try because when poetry is translated, it may lose its aesthetics. Others emphasize on the translatability of poetry by using some strategies which swing between foreignising, i.e., sticking strongly to the rules of the source language, and domesticating, i.e., submitting or adapting the rules of the source language to those of the target language. In this connection, the present research work aims to find out which strategies suit best the translation of poetry and which modifications should be made to the source text in order to transmit poetic discourse with all its linguistic, stylistic, semantic aspects and its aesthetics from English into Arabic. For this purpose, a set of parallel corpora composed of English and Arabic of Robert Frost's poetry have been selected and analyzed cross-linguistically in order to find out the strategies used by translators to render poetry from English into Arabic.
The two versions have been analysed quantitatively and qualitatively taking all the
poetic aspects such as the words, the tone, and the images into consideration.
Moreover, some cultural gaps which may put professional translators in troubles have
been taken into account. Besides, we tried to drive out the myth of the untranslatability of poetic discourse through a test which was administered to a group composed of thirty fourth year translation students and four professional translators. In addition, a questionnaire was given to thirteen translation teachers in order to back up the hypotheses. The results revealed that the process of translation is not only a linguistic transfer, but it is also a cultural transfer, hence poetry translation should take the cultural aspects of both the source language and the target language into account.Diplôme : Doctorat En ligne : ../theses/anglais/SEK1394.pdf Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10197 Strategies used in translating poetic discourse from english into arabic. : A cross- language study based on Robert Frost’s poetry [texte imprimé] / Ouided Sekhri, Auteur ; Zahri Harouni, Directeur de thèse . - جامعة الإخوة منتوري قسنطينة, 2016 . - 415 f. ; 30 cm.

However, translation took with the cultural turn and postcolonial theory, another dimension. Indeed, translation appears today as a process and a place of in-between, that is to say, recent work on translation theory and practice indicates the need for translation studies for more flexibility , in order to explore the implications of new concepts and practices of translation and to update the conceptual and ideological data on hybrid identities and cultural hybridity.
This study, lies under the scope of Algerian francophone postcolonial studies, and examines a french writing by a bilingual Algerian author: Assia Djebar, the work “ La Disparition de la langue Française (2003) “The disappearance of the French language” . The novel evokes the storie of man who return to Algeria after a long exile. The main protoganist Berkane, almost fifty years old being exile from Algeria for twenty years returns to his native land and he attempts to retrieve his personal memories and the city of his youth .
This research, aims to explore the analogy between the writing and the translation emerging from three principal observations: The first was about the hybrid feature of postcolonial Algerian literatury texts, the second tackles the similarities that seem to be common to both the writing strategies of the Algerian authors with French expression and the Foreignization strategies in translation. The third and the last one is related to the mediation role of the writer as a cultural translator who tells the Self using the language of the Other.
These observations required the collection of some theoretical data in Translation Studies particularly ranging in postcolonial tendencies, and which revealed the Conception of Translation as a Metaphor of Postcolonial Writing; so as to tackle the question: Is it possible to talk about a postcolonial-author-translator? And assume that the distance between the text to be translated and the translated one is reproduced in the hybrid text scene.

Its object is the study of translation methods to achieve acculturation between different cultures and even between thoughts, within the text of Algerian French-writing authors. To understand the effects of translation: on the original text and on the receiver of the translated text (source culture and target culture). This study was carried out on the novels of Mouloud Feraoun: The poor Man’s son (1950), Land and the Blood (1953), Days of Kabylie (1954), Heavy tracks (1957). This research propose a problematic that is necessary for the study, the methodological framework is specified so as to be able to analyze the translations and the effects on the target culture and the reader, both on the acculturation of the other. When looking into the effects of translation on the text and the target culture, we observe that: the transfer of language and culture has allowed the other to better understand the concepts of culture of the original text and the set of linguistic and semantic phenomena. Acculturation is also the most important dimension in translation, since it enriches communication and cultural dialogue. Acculturation can take place among peoples as it can be between the members of a single people, for thoughts differ from one person to another and from one society to another. Acculturation has never a one-way: Cultures depend on the social relations between people. But these are often power relations. Different cultures will therefore find themselves in relation to each other in a position of strength or weakness. But the socially strongest groups do not always succeed in imposing themselves on the weakest groups. Cultures are thus ensembles in permanent construction, with phenomena of structuration, destructuration. There is not necessarily a donor culture and another recipient.
