a case which is Google Translation which is used by Internet users. Some of its users
are the students of English language, journalists and even some professional
translators. In our country, these people who have some basic knowledge of English,
and Arabic is the closest to their mother tongue. In this work, a sample of Google
Translation is analysed, aiming at showing the advantages and disadvantages of this
type of translation, and discusses possible ways in which this tool may be used in
order to translate texts from Arabic into English in a more accurate way. The
importance of this topic is driven from the need of quick translation, especially online,

and British spelling and to reveal the reasons behind some students' inability to do so. It also
aims to arrive at possible solutions to raise the students' awareness of the differences in
spelling between British and American English. It was hypothesized that students would not
be aware of the differences in spelling between American and British English because little
attention is given to this matter in the classroom. To check the validity of this hypothesis, a
test and a questionnaire were administered to a random sample of 24 first year master students
of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies at the University of Frères Mentouri
Constantine 1.The obtained results reveal that these students are aware of the spelling
differences that exist between the two varieties even though there is no special care of these
differences in the classroom. Therefore, these results disconfirm the hypothesis made at the

English into Arabic. It aims at revealing the students’ method of translation, and to examine
the students’ awareness of the differences between the passive constructions in Arabic and
English. We hypothesised that if first year Master students at the Department of English Arts
and Language, University of Constantine 1, avoid literal translation, they will succeed in
their task of translating the English agentive passive construction into Arabic. A
questionnaire and test are administered to a random sample of fifty first year Master students
majoring in applied languages in the department of Arts and English language– University of
Constantine 1. The results obtained show that the students do translate literally. They also
show that students are completely unaware of the differences between the passive
construction in both English and Arabic. This is proven by contrasting the students’
translations with an expert’s translation model. Finally, it is recommended to teachers of
Arabic to emphasise that the passive in Arabic is agentless and that it is used less frequently
than other languages. It is also recommended for translation teachers to include some courses

solutions to raise students’ awareness of the differences between British and American
pronunciations. These solutions will help them select their target models and, therefore, attain
