Résumé :	The present study attempts to shed some light on one of the lexical problems encountered by students in translation. That is, the translation of cultural specific items from Arabic into English. It is hypothesized that students are not well aware of the problem of culture- specific items and the strategies suggested by theorists to solve it. The data was collected by means of a test and a questionnaire and was analysed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results obtained confirm that First Year Master students of English are not well aware of this problem which arises from the cultural differences between Arabic and English. It also reveals that they are not well aware of all the strategies suggested by theorists to solve it. The study concluded with some recommendations to enrich students' cultural knowledge to improve their translation level.
