The present study aims at exploring the effects of listening to audio-short stories on improving the learners’ speaking skill. For this purpose, we hypothesized that if teachers use audio-short stories as a listening activity, they would enhance the learners’ speaking skill. In order to examine the research hypothesis, two questionnaires were administered to a sample of ten teachers of Oral expression course and fifty students of second year at the department of English, university of Mentouri Brothers- Constantine, in order to obtain the necessary information about their attitudes and opinions towards the use of audio-short stories in language learning and, particularly, in enhancing the speaking skill. The results showed that the majority of teachers and students believe that listening to audio-short stories is one of the most important activities that enable EFL learners to develop their speaking , which confirmed our research hypothesis. The use of audio-short stories could, hence, be applied as a successful teaching practice to develop speaking outcomes. strategy to develop foreign language learners Vocabulary acquisition. The main objective of
this study is finding out to what extent does the use of electronic dictionaries helpsforeign
students promoting their vocabulary acquisition. So, the hypothesis is, “if foreign language
learners use electronic dictionaries, they would better increase their vocabulary knowledge”.
One research instruments is used in this research study. A students’ questionnaire
administered to 45 third year English students at the Department of Letters and the English
Language, University of “Des Frère Mentouri”, Constantine 1. And a teachers’ questionnaire
administered to 10 EFL teachers at the same department. The results obtained from the
analysis of the questionnaires show that both teachers and students favor the use of electronic
dictionaries to look up the meaning of new words; and they believe that it is an effective
strategy that can enhance the acquisition of vocabulary. That is to say, the results of both
questionnaires confirm the research hypothesis.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10347 Investigating the students’ attitudes toward the use of electronic dictionaries in enhancing vocabulary acquisition : The case study of third year (lmd) students of english at university of “des frère mentouri” constantine [texte imprimé] / Nor El Houda Krika, Auteur ; Lamia Elmechta, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2018 . - 85 f. ; 30 cm.

Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Language Sciences Correlation Memory Intelligence Algerian University Students Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Our present work aims at investigating the relationship between memory and
intelligence in first year students of English at the University of Constantine. For this
purpose, we have hypothesized that those who possess higher memory abilities perform
better in intelligence tests than less able ones. To test our hypothesis, we have taken a
sample of 40 students from the population of first year, and designed two tests, one for
memory and the other for intelligence. Both tests have been given in English. Intelligence
test has measured chiefly reasoning, problem solving and language aptitude, while memory
test has assessed simple storage capacity (mechanical recall) and active memory capacity
(processing and recall). The data derived from the examination have yielded significant
results, mainly between working memory and intelligence, thus they go in the direction of
our hypothesis. These results could offer some help to teachers about the role of individual
differences in memory capacities and their impact on learning, which is an aspect of
intelligence.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5182 The correlation between memory and intelligence in algerian university students : The case of first year lmd students, university of constantine [texte imprimé] / Lamia Elmechta, Auteur ; H. Titre : The Impact of Mnemonic Strategies on Enhancing EFL Learners’ Vocabulary The Case of Master 1 Students of English at the University Frères Mentouri Constantine 1 Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Aya Seddik, Auteur ; Lamia Elmechta, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2021 Importance : 103 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie electronique PDF disponible au BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Learning a foreign language is considered as a challenging process. Hence, to master a language,
learners need to gain sufficient vocabulary storage. The latter plays a very important role in language
learning, yet many language learners find it difficult to fluently use the language because of poor
vocabulary storage as with inefficient use of strategies. In addition, retaining words that have been
learned for a long time is a too demanding task, learners can remember the word once or twice but
later the operation will not be as easy as early exposure time. For that, the use of some strategies that
enable learners to recall words easily is of great importance. The present study attempts to investigate
the student’s as well as the teachers’ attitudes towards the use of mnemonic strategies in vocabulary
development. We hypothesize that teachers and students of English at university of Constantine 1
would show a positive attitude towards the use of mnemonic strategies in which these strategies
would be viewed to have a positive impact on vocabulary development. For this reason, two
questionnaires were administered to a sample of thirty-one Master –one students and eleven
teachers during the academic year of 2020-2021, to get the necessary information about their opinions
and attitudes towards the use of mnemonics as a memory strategy in enhancing foreign language
learners vocabulary. The findings indicate that the majority of students use mnemonic strategies
especially “music mnemonics”; similarly, a significant percentage of teachers do use these strategies
to enhance their student’s vocabulary. These results go in the direction of our hypothesis that they do
play a positive role in enhancing foreign language vocabulary. The study recommends that the
application of mnemonic strategies should be considered in the acquisition of foreign language
vocabulary.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=15971 The Impact of Mnemonic Strategies on Enhancing EFL Learners’ Vocabulary The Case of Master 1 Students of English at the University Frères Mentouri Constantine 1 [texte imprimé] / Aya Seddik, Auteur ; Lamia Elmechta, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2021 . - 103 f. ; 30 cm.

Titre : The role of sociolinguistic competence in enhancing foreign language learners’ speaking accuracy : The case of second year students at the university ofconstantine 1 Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Hadjer Tiah, Auteur ; Lamia Elmechta, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2017 Importance : 99 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Language Sciences. Sociolinguistic Competence Speaking Accuracy Résumé : Communicating effectively in the foreign language is very important; and to perform it with proficiency is even greater. Sociolinguistic competence and accuracy are two important elements for effective communication, for they provide knowledge about the appropriate use of language in social contexts and in the choice of words. This study aims to investigate the effects of sociolinguistic competence, along with accuracy, on the students’ performance. We predicted that if we develop learners’ sociolinguistic competence their speaking accuracy will improve. The examination of the hypothesis was done through the administration of a test to a sample of forty students at the department of English, university of Mentouri Brothers- Constantine. In order to achieve this aim, we have based on two means of research: pilot test and the test. The test included three sections: the first one about general information, one about assessing sociolinguistic competence, and the other one assessing accuracy. Twenty items were given in each section where the students were asked to choose the appropriate answer from every sentence to test their level of sociolinguistic competence as well as accuracy. The findings of the study illustrated that the subjects who outperformed in sociolinguistic competence also tended to show better accuracy scores. The results, hence, were in the direction of our hypothesis, which means that there is a strong relationship between sociolinguistic competence and speaking accuracy. The study would, therefore, recommend the application of sociolinguistic tasks to enhance accuracy level as with proficiency in learning English as a foreign language.
