The present study, which consists of three chapters, is conducted to investigate the role of prior knowledge activation through previewing for enhancing first year English students' reading comprehension. Our main concern is to uncover the nature of the relationship which joins background knowledge and reading comprehension. We have hypothesised that the activation of first year English learners' prior knowledge of informational texts is likely to foster reading comprehension. To verify the validity of this hypothesis, we have administered a students’ questionnaire which aims at collecting data about their opinions towards reading, reading comprehension difficulties, and background knowledge activation. After, we have conducted a practical exercise in which we wanted to confirm the questionnaire results since we noticed that they were not sufficient. In addition, the practical exercise aims at eliciting further accurate data concerning our tackled strategy. The findings of both the questionnaire and the exercise confirmed the set hypothesis. Through the discussion of the results, it was noticed that pre-existing knowledge of a given topic indeed helps first year students to comprehend the new information related to that topic. Besides, students have shown their tendency for previewing reading materials before getting started with reading for the sake of activating their background knowledge. Titre : Developing the speaking skill through interaction : A case of second year english students at the foreign languages department of constantine university1 Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Naima Bennecer, Auteur ; Ahmed Moumene, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2013 Importance : 100 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Language Sciences Speaking Skill Interaction Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Foreign language learning has been since decades the focus of many researchers and
scholars, particularly its spoken mode. It needs efforts, and practice from the part of learners
and facilities from the part of the teacher. Thinking about the students’ performance in the
oral class, made us state the problem that there appears to be bad and unsatisfying speaking
act. In order for any possibility of good speaking ability to take place, we have combined
two variables believing that the speaking skill can be developed through interaction. In fact
the aim of this research is to investigate the extent to which the speaking ability of the
learners can be developed if they are rehearsed to speak in face to face, or collaboratively. In
other words its main goal is to prove that interaction inside the classroom among the
students and with their teacher, will contribute to enhance their oral proficiency, and leads to
improvement. Consequently we have hypothesized that if second year English students are
trained to interact with each other and then with the teacher, their speaking skill will be
improved. As a result we have used in our research tool two types of questionnaire, so we
have questioned a selected sample of 40 students, second year- LMD- at the department of
English University of Constantine, and 10 oral expression teachers. The result we get will be
very helpful in proving the correctness of our hypothesis or neglect its validityDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=6785 Developing the speaking skill through interaction : A case of second year english students at the foreign languages department of constantine university1 [texte imprimé] / Naima Bennecer, Auteur ; Ahmed Moumene, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2013 . - 100 f. ; 30 cm.

Titre : developing the students’ writing skill through cooperative : The case of third-Year LMD students-university mentouri of Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Mohamed Seddik SAHIM, Auteur ; Ahmed Moumene, Auteur Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2011 Importance : 69 f. Format : 30 cm. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Developing Students’ Cooperative Technique Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Writing in a foreign language is one of the most difficult and complex tasks for language
learners. It is a complicated skill that requires great effort and practice on the learners’ part
and necessitates the incorporation of an effective method to achieve an acceptable level of
writing. Due to the complexity of this skill, many students find it very difficult to produce
an adequate piece of writing. The present study aims at describing and investigating the
effects of cooperative learning techniques on developing the students’ writing skill. The
aim then is to determine whether the students’ writing ability would be improved when
teachers incorporate cooperative learning in the writing classroom. It is by the means of
two questionnaires devised to both teachers and students from the Department of Foreign
Languages at Mentouri University Constantine that we investigated the hypothesis of this
research work. Teachers’ questionnaire is dedicated to ten teachers of written expression to
get insights about the techniques used in teaching writing and their views of cooperative
learning technique. The students’ questionnaire is given to thirty third-year English
students from the same department during the academic year 2010-2011 to check their
attitudes towards the use of cooperative learning in the classroom. The findings gathered in
this study confirmed the set hypothesis that incorporating cooperative learning in the
writing classroom develops the students’ writing skill.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3455 developing the students’ writing skill through cooperative : The case of third-Year LMD students-university mentouri of [texte imprimé] / Mohamed Seddik SAHIM, Auteur ; Ahmed Moumene, Auteur . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2011 . - 69 f. ; 30 cm.

Titre : Enhancing efl learners’ reading comprehension through using semantic mapping during the pre-reading phase : A case study third year pupils at zaouche secondary school in constantine Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Ouafik Farah, Auteur ; Ahmed Moumene, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2011 Importance : 75 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Languages Sciences EFL learners Pre-reading Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Reading is a very important skill for learners of English as a second or foreign language as well as for native users of the language. For many students and pedagogues, reading is the most important skill to master. With strengthened reading abilities, ESL/ EFL readers will make greater progress and attain greater development in all academic areas. However, when dealing with a reading lesson, many pupils at secondary schools face difficulties in comprehending a piece of text. A big proportion of pupils’ difficulty is due to the fact that teachers most of the times neglect the process through which reading should be carried out by pushing learners towards the habit of reading the text directly without thinking about its content in advance. Thus, activating intermediate learners’ prior knowledge and boosting their vocabulary through using semantic mapping would have a significant effect on their reading comprehension. It is by the means of a t-test for independent variable given to third year secondary learners, we investigated the influence of semantic mapping on reading comprehension. The findings gathered in this study conform that semantic mapping is really a useful technique that allows learners to comprehend texts more effectively Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5795 Enhancing efl learners’ reading comprehension through using semantic mapping during the pre-reading phase : A case study third year pupils at zaouche secondary school in constantine [texte imprimé] / Ouafik Farah, Auteur ; Ahmed Moumene, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2011 . - 75 f. ; 30 cm.
