pronunciation and comprehension. It also identifies the problems students encounter in
listening. Among the solutions that we think could counteract the negative effects of this
problem, teachers’ awareness about the crucial effect of intensive listening, particularly the
use of authentic listening materials in the classroom is uppermost in our mind. In our
hypothesis, we assumed that students were not exposed to authentic listening materials
enough and would, therefore, find problems of comprehension anytime they were exposed to
them and they would not Improve their pronunciation. To confirm this hypothesis, we
administered a questionnaire and a test to second year students at the department of English,
University of Constantine. The results really confirmed that students were rarely exposed to
authentic materials and displayed serious comprehension problems whenever they were
exposed to them.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3453 the importance of authentic materials in pronunciation and comprehension : The case of 2 nd Year LMD students, University of Constantine [texte imprimé] / Radia Sellai, Auteur ; Lamia Sabaa, Auteur ; Azddine Boulfelfel, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2011 . - 69 f. ; 30 cm.

Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Applied Languages Encountered Authentic Materials Appropriate Strategies Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Listening plays a significant role in learning English as a foreign language. In spite of this importance, listening has received little care in foreign language acquisition, research, and teaching. There has been little research on the listening difficulties that EFL learners encounter when they are exposed to real-life language. The main purpose of this study is to investigate listening problems faced by third year students of English at Constantine1 University. Another aim of the study is to provide these learners with some listening strategies to improve their performance in listening to natively spoken English. To achieve our aims behind this study, data was gathered by means of a students’ questionnaire and a test which have been administrated to fifty students. The results obtained from these indicate that vocabulary, pronunciation, speed of delivery, and a number of psychological and environmental problems are the major listening comprehension problems encountered by EFL third year students. On the basis of that, some listening strategies have been given for students to help them overcome their listening comprehension problems, and to improve their English listening abilities.
