Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Code-switching is a sociolinguistic phenomenon that occurs when a speaker uses more than
one language in his discourse. The good example of this phenomenon is found among EFL
learners who switch codes from their mother language to English and vice versa in their
speaking. This study aims to shed light on the phenomenon of code-switching and show the
extent of using English in the daily discourse by English students in addition to check if learning
the English language affects students’ speaking; advanced students tend to switch to English
more in their informal settings than beginner students. In order to test our hypothesis, a
questionnaire was administrated to two different levels, first year undergraduate and first year
Master students. The main objective of this questionnaire is to collect data based on the
students’ answers and to see the attitudes of students towards code-switching. Students of
English at Frères Mentouri University, Constantine 1, are considered to be our population of
this study; the sample was taken randomly from two different levels: first year undergraduate
and first year Master English students. According to statistical analysis, first year Master
students switch codes more than first year students. This indicates that first year Master students
are more qualified and competent at English since they have been learning it for many years,
which leads them to the use English words in informal settings unconsciously. Thus, our
hypothesis was confirmed, and we can conclude that the more students learn English for several
years, the more they would switch codesDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13297 The Use of Code-switching in Informal Settings by EFL Students The Case of First Year Undergraduate Students and First Year Master Students at Frères Mentouri University, Constantine 1 [texte imprimé] / Racha Kahlouche, Auteur ; Ali Ghiat, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2020 . - 76 f. ; 30cm.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Code-switching sociolinguistic perspective use of English alone inside the classroom. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : From a sociolinguistic perspective, Code-switching, as a linguistic communicative
phenomenon, plays an important role in studying language variation and use by bilinguals and
multi-linguals. Many studies were held to examine the use of code-switching as a language
contact, this arose a conflict between scholars on whether or not this phenomenon is
beneficial in the process of learning English as a foreign language. The focus of this
dissertation lies in the resulting mixture of languages through one piece of speech in a specific
setting, to illustrate the main aims of this research which are the reasons behind the use of
code switching by students inside the classroom as well as investigating the attitudes
ofteachers of English at University Frères Mentouri, Constantine 1 towards the use of codeswitching in their classes. It also aims at identifying the advantages and disadvantages of
code-switching. Accordingly, we hypothesize that if EFL teachers use code-switching
intentionally and effectively in the classroom, this would facilitate learning for their first year
students. To check this hypothesis, a questionnaire was administered to 17 English as foreign
language teachers at the Department of English, University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine 1.
The theoretical part consists of a number of definitions, types, and causes to code-switching
along with some other similar phenomena. The methodological part consists of a
questionnaire that was administered to the sample of the study in order to investigate their
attitudes towards the use of code-switching inside the EFL classrooms. The findings revealed
thatsome teachers believe that the use of CS is advantageous as it fulfill students and teachers’
needs; conversely, other teachers emphasize the use of English alone inside the classroom.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13745 Teachers’ Attitudes towards the Use of Code-switching inside EFL Classrooms The case of First Year English Teachers of Frères Mentouri University, Constantine 1 : Dissertation Submitted in partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for a Master Degree in Linguistics and Applied Language Studies [texte imprimé] / Ibtissem Rezzak, Auteur ; Rym Kemmouche, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2020 . - 81 f. ; 30cm.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Code-switching Attitudes Investigation EFL classrooms. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Code switching is seen as a suspicion in EFL classes. The present research aims to investigate
teachers’ and students’ attitudes toward the use of code switching in EFL classrooms.
Therefore, a hypothesis is formulated to check whether teachers’ and students’ code switching
in EFL classes will have a positive impact on the teaching and learning processes or not. To
reach this end, a questionnaire has been used as a research tool; one administrated to SecondYear students of English, and another one to teachers of English at the department of English
at Mentouri University Constantine in the academic year 2019/2020. The results of the analysis
and interpretations of the data compiled from both questionnaires display that students do not
share the same opinions and attitudes with teachers towards code switching in EFL classrooms.
The findings indicates that the use of code switching inside EFL classroom has an impact on
both teachers and students in teaching and learning processes.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13584 Investigating Students’ and Teachers’ Attitudes Towards Code Switching In EFL Classes A Case Study of Second Year Students at Mentouri University [texte imprimé] / Achouak Chelghoum, Auteur ; Sabrina Bouhali, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2020 . - 71 f. ; 30cm.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Code-Switching the target language. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present research study investigates the impact of code-switching on the students’ learning
process. It aims to identify the reasons behind using this language attitude. It also attempts to
identify the extent to which code-switching may affect the students’ learning process. In order
to carry out our research, we hypothesize that, “if students suffer from the lack of vocabulary
and linguistic competence, they will go through the use of code-switching”. In light of this, two
questionnaires have been used: a questionnaire for students and a questionnaire for teachers.
The students’ questionnaire aims to collect information on the students’ knowledge and beliefe
regarding the use of code-switching and the reasons behind using such a phenomenon. The
Teachers’questionnaire aims to collect information on the teachers’ perceptions related to the
students’ use of code-switching and identify its impact on the learning process. The obtained
results confirm that students resort to code-switching due the lack of vocabulary knowledge in
the target language.Yet, code-switching is also considered as an obstacle because it breaks

Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Applied Languages code-switching learning process linguistic Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present research throws light on the influence of code-switching used by students and teachers of English on the learning process and the reasons behind using this language attitude. It tends to investigate teachers’ attitudes and views towards resorting to code-switching as a teaching strategy. In order to carry out our research, we hypothesise that due to the lack of linguistic competence, students code-switch; that is to say, the less vocabulary items students know, the more they code-switch. The method used to check the validity of the research hypothesis consists of two questionnaires for both students and teachers. Students’ questionnaire administered to a sample of second year students at the Department of Arts and English Languages at Mentouri University of Constantine 1. It consists of ten questions submitted to thirty students in order to know when and why they code switch. Teachers’ questionnaire which is distributed to ten teachers serves to investigate their opinions about whether code-switching is a beneficial strategy that can enhance students’ learning or not. The obtained results reveal that teachers do not prefer to code-switch in the language classroom as it affects negatively on students’ learning process, many are for the opinion that only the Target Language should be used in classroom. The findings confirm the hypothesis and show that lack of vocabulary knowledge is the main reason which leads students to code-switch.
