Résumé : |
Speaking, the most frequently used form of language skill, plays a significant role in both daily communication and educational process. Thus, speaking is a basic skill that must be mastered by students in learning a foreign language. The fundamental purpose of this study is to find out what can students do in order to successfully improve their speaking skills. Therefore, the general idea behind this work is to shed light on some effective strategies that can help the students in the development of their speaking performance. This is accomplished through a questionnaire involving a collection of data and analysis which was administrated to the third year LMD students. The results of the questionnaire showed that the majority of students require extra help in improving their English speaking skills |

Applied Language Studies Investigating Using Language Information Communication |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
This research is interested in applying ideas from various sources to create the best learning environments available for students while learning speaking a foreign language. It deals with using language laboratory and information and communication technology in learning, and in particular using video recordings. In fact, learning language skills especially listening and speaking skills seems to be difficult. For this purpose, we hypothesize that if students make use of language laboratory and information and communication tools such as video recordings, they will overcome their own disabilities in spoken language. To check the validity of the hypothesis, a questionnaire and a video are given to third-year students at the Department of English in Mentouri University of Constantine. The results, then, have revealed that students are more motivated to learn both vocabulary and pronunciation in cases of using common technological aids, precisely video recordings |

Applied Language Studies third -year students translating |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The present research aims at investigating the strategies used by third-year Applied
Languages students of English while translating metaphors from English into Arabic. It also
sets to verify that if students show a low degree of familiarity as well as a low success with
English metaphors. As such they will use different strategies to overcome their difficulties.
The test of the present research comprises two parts. The first part is a comprehension test
given in the form of dialogues based on the metaphorical expressions. It is mainly concerned
with collecting information on learners’ comprehension and their familiarity with English
metaphors. The second part is a translation test aiming at analyzing the strategies used by
third-year students of English. The results of the comprehension test have revealed that most
students have been able to understand the metaphorical expressions choosing the appropriate
answer among the three options provided. This is due to the fact that the context helps
students in providing the appropriate answers. In addition, the results of the translation test
show that students were unable to translate and to find the exact Arabic equivalent because of
their unfamiliarity with English metaphors. The results show also that when students fail in
finding the Arabic equivalent of the metaphor, they tend to rely on paraphrasing and on using
literal translation as strategies which make their translation unacceptable |

Résumé : |
The primary objective of this study is to investigate the reading difficulties of Third Year
LMD students at the Department of English Letters and Language, University Constantine 1.
The study attempts to integrate the notion of linguistic competence into the construct of
reading, to examine the reading difficulties and also the factors related to EFL reading
comprehension issues. The researcher investigates one aspect of communicative competence
which is linguistic competence by putting a hypothesis that EFL students whose linguistic
incompetence may be due to their unawareness of how to use their reading strategies while
they read. For this purpose, a test was given to 40 EFL students and the results are analysed in
order to explore from a linguistic competence perspective where the difficulties in EFL
reading are experienced. In addition, a questionnaire is administered to the EFL teachers to
investigate the different problems which students face concerning the reading skill. The
results show that student’s difficulties in reading originate from the lack of linguistic
competence and this is mainly because of vocabulary and grammar deficiencies. |

Language Sciences Listening Enhancing Students’ Speaking Skill |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The purpose of this study is to show that listening can be a best pedagogical strategy to
improve the speaking skill to third year LMD students. Speaking is considered the most
important skill in learning a foreign language. Today, many researchers argue that through
listening, knowledge can be constructed and the speaking skill will be improved.
Additionally, we have noticed that most EFL learners face problems as the lack of vocabulary
and pronunciation when they try to speak English accurately and fluently. We have
hypothesized that the students who listen to English more, their speaking skill would be
enhanced. In order to confirm our hypothesis, we have chosen two questionnaires which have
been administered to the third-year LMD students and the teachers of Oral Expression in the
University of Constantine 1. The results reveal that both of them agree that listening is one of
the effective techniques that help to improve the speaking skill |
