Listening is a complex and a sensitive process especially when it is related to the issue of
teaching English as a foreign language. In view of the fact that less attention is given to this
skill in the real classroom, many obstacles will face students in listening to native speech.
This study is designed to investigate students’ level in listening skill and revealing the
common difficulties they may face while listening to English recordings. Moreover, it aims to
suggest some possible remedies for students’ weaknesses to assist them in enhancing their
listening aptitudes. This research depends on the view that if third year students might have a
low level in the listening skill and that they may face difficulties in dealing with English
recordings. The investigation tools used in this study are two questionnaires directed to both
Oral Expression teachers and third year LMD students, to gather data about listening in
general, besides a test administrated to third year students to assess their listening average
level. The educational settings in which this study took place, is the Foreign Languages
Department, at University 1 of Constantine. The analysis of the obtained results of the tools
used shows that English students have a low average level of listening, and they are facing a
variety of problems in listening to English recordings in particular |

The present research work attempts to shed light on the translation of the Perfect Tenses in
Direct Translation. In fact, many translation manuals of Arabic/English translation have dealt
with the issue in a more or less prescriptive way: the present perfect should be rendered by the
past tense in Arabic; the past perfect should be rendered by the past + the particle قد . Such rules
were illustrated by examples in most of the cases. This remains, however, restricted since these
manuals concentrate on the form rather than the meaning of the tense.
This research seeks to investigate the students’ strategies while rendering the different nuances
of meaning expressed by the perfect tenses in direct translation.
Thus, the study sets to examine (1) how do students of Master One render the different nuances
of meaning expressed by the Perfect tense in Direct Translation. And (2) to what extent they were
successful in rendering the different nuances of meaning expressed by the Perfect tenses.
The instrument used to answer the research questions is a translation test that contained a list of
contextualized sentences comprising the perfect tenses. Furthermore, a descriptive method was
used in the analysis of the results.
The results show that the strategies of Master One students were unsuccessful in rendering the
nuances of meaning expressed by the perfect tenses in direct translation in most of cases |

Arabic and English are two different languages with different systems and
structures. This difference maybe problematic for students to translate across these
two languages. The present study is mainly concerned with the difficulties students

structure and the use of the omission strategies to translate complex sentences from
Arabic into English. The students’ methods were in some cases successful and in
other cases unsuccessful. |

The purpose of this study is to have some insights about the students’ performance of religious translation in general and the Quran in particular. Particularly, the study seeks to investigate the methods used by English students to translate collocations in the holly Quran from Arabic into English, and discuss the common mistakes that would occur. The study is carried out through a questionnaire and a translation test. The questionnaire aims at gathering information about the students’ knowledge of collocation in general, and the contextualized Quranic collocation in particular; and the way they would translate them. The translation test comprises fifteen (15) Arabic Contextualized Quranic Collocation randomly selected from the Holy Quran to be translated into English. The results of this research revealed that the methods used by students in their translation are: Literal translation, sense for sense translation, Idiomatic translation, and Communicative translation. In addition to that, their mistranslation is due to: the misuse of the dictionary (they chose words that are inappropriate for the context), the interference of the mother tongue, and their limited English linguistic background. Hence the hypothesis of the study is confirmed which is the method students might use by students is looking for an equivalent collocation in English. Interference might be one of the common mistakes students commit when translating collocations in religious texts from Arabic into English. |

This research investigates the translation of emotional aspects, in Barak Obama’s
written inaugural speech 2009 direct translation. The importance of this topic
emanates from the difference between languages in expressing such aspects. The
major question raised is: To what extent were the emotional aspects (mood) in
Obama’s speech, successfully rendered in direct translation? The study is initiated by
a simple hypothesis: In a text type such as the political speech; focusing on the
emotional message, the translation might mirror that same focus. This research is
divided into two chapters: Theory deals with clarifying some basic concepts related to
the topic. And, practice which is, basically, an analysis of a sample Arabic translation
of Obama’s inaugural address. The results of the latter vary between the degrees of
success. Generally, the rendering of the emotional aspects in the Arabic version of the
speech is acceptable. |
