Language Sciences Self–Esteem Communicative |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The main purpose of the present study is to investigate the role of self-esteem in enhancing
students‟ communicative competence. Third-year students of English encounter a variety of
problems that prevent their communicative level from being effective. One major problem is
that these students have a low level of self-esteem, in the sense that they evaluate themselves
as weak and incapable. For this reason, we hypothesize that students‟ positive evaluation
about themselves and their abilities may affect their communicative competence and that
teachers‟ focus on affective aspects may help in boosting students‟ self-esteem for effective
communication. To examine this hypothesis, two questionnaires have been administered to
twenty teachers and forty students at the department of letters and English language,
university of Constantine 1. The results obtained show that the majority of teachers consider
the concept of self-esteem crucial in learning in general and in enhancing students‟
communicative competence in particular. They argue that students with a healthy level of
self-esteem can communicate effectively and they usually attempt to enhance their students‟
self-esteem. Besides, the findings show further that students who trust their capacities and feel
confident of their own abilities may fulfill their communicative goals. The results of this
research work corroborate the hypotheses postulated |

Language Sciences APPLICATION COMMUNICATIVE METHOD |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The present dissertation project consists of two chapters. It is carried out to investigate
Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) framework as a helpful method applied to make
students perform better orally. Our main objective is to investigate to what extent applying CLT
method can help students to develop their speaking skill. This study does not only aim at
examining the characteristics of Communicative Language Teaching framework, but also it
shows how it enhances the student’s oral skill as well. The basic hypothesis adopted in this study
sets out that if the Communicative Language Teaching Framework as an appropriate method is
applied in language class, students will develop their oral skill in a better way. The method used
in this study is descriptive. It aims to define the Communicative Language Teaching method as
an independent variable, and its role in enhancing the students’ speaking proficiency as a
dependent variable. To support the validity of this study, the data were gathered through two
questionnaires, the first one administrated to a sample of forty (40) second year L.M.D students
of English at Constantine 1 University, and the second to eleven (11) teachers who teach oral
expression at the Department of Letters and English Language at Constantine 1 University. The
results have shown that applying the Communicative Language Teaching method in oral
expression sessions helps learners to develop their speaking skill. Our hypothesis is confirmed:
teachers must apply CLT in language classes because it is the appropriate method for students to
develop better their oral proficiency |

Résumé : |
This study investigates the association between the development of communicative competence and introversion / extraversion personality dimensions. The research problem of the current study is to check whether students are aware of the impact of their personality on their oral communicative performance in the Department of English Mentouri University, and to what extent teachers attempt to adapt their strategies to cope with such individuality. Therefore, this topic was chosen from the fact that learners do not achieve satisfactory level in the oral production, mainly because they are not conscious of the effect of personality on their academic achievement particularly on their speaking skill. So teachers are supposed to regulate their strategies and activities as much as possible to meet their students’ needs focusing on their personality. In order to investigate abovementioned topic, two tools of gathering information are applied. Structured interview which is directed to second year LMD students, and questionnaire devoted to Oral Expression teachers at the Department of letters and English language Mentouri University in Constantine. The analysis of the two means presents that both teachers and learners are aware of the fact that personality traits has a strong impact on the development of the oral communicative performance. |
