Résumé : |
The present study is an attempt to have a better understanding of cooperative learning (CL) and its use to create a healthy atmosphere in the FL class. It investigates students’ and teachers’ views about groupwork and the role it plays to enhance motivation in the English class. The questionnaire is used as a tool to collect data. One questionnaire was administered to third year LMD students of English, at Ben M’hidi University, Oum El Bouaghi. Another questionnaire was addressed to their teachers at the same university.
The analysis of the results of the two questionnaires showed that third year students of English have positive attitudes towards pair/group work, but consider individual work as equally important. Moreover, third year teachers of English care about the affective side of the students and use CL techniques to motivate them to learn. Thus, the research hypotheses were confirmed |

Language Sciences Enhancing Students through Cooperative Learning |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
Recent studies in the field of language teaching emphasize the importance the learning
process and the central role of the learner. With the new role that is assigned to the learner,
our classrooms have to be reconsidered and much more emphasis has to be given to the
learner. In fact, the learning context greatly affects the learner and the rate of his intake.
Because writing is significant, teachers’ techniques to teach this skill were investigated,
and more precisely the extent to which they incorporate elements of Cooperative Learning
(CL). Moreover, the student’ attitudes to group work were explored. Based on the aspects
investigated, two hypotheses were put. The first states teachers’ awareness of CL would lead
to create an affective learning environment through classroom participation in the writing
tasks. The second, on the other hand, is that students’ positive attitudes towards the use of
group work could positively correlate with their affective side.
T o carry out this study, two questionnaires were used: one for teachers of written
expression, and another for third year LMD students. The results of the teachers’
questionnaire showed that third year teachers are aware of the effective use of CL; a form of
teaching through the use group of work which is the first step towards CL. Students’
questionnaire demonstrated that third year students have positive attitudes towards group
work in teaching writing. |

Language Sciences Cooperative Learning Enhancing Students Writing Skills |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
Writing is considered as a difficult and demanding process to be learned in a foreign
language. Although the different approaches to writing that have proven to improve the
writing performance of students, English writing skills of learners have not yet reached the
standard. The present study aims to explore the impact of cooperative learning on
enhancing students’ writing skills. It is mainly concerned with making use of group work
to promote students’ writing level. It attempts to shed light on the importance of
establishing a relaxed atmosphere among students to improve their writing skill. The basic
hypothesis adopted in this study sets out that if third- year students of English use
cooperative learning strategy, they would enhance their writing skill. The method of this
research work is quite descriptive. It aims to describe two variables: cooperative learning
as an independent variable and its positive impact on learners’ writing skill as a dependent
variable. The data were gathered through self-completion questionnaires administrated to
third-year students and to teachers who have taught Written Expression at the Department
of English, University of Constantine1. The results have shown that using cooperative
learning strategy is the effective way to promote students’ writing performance. On the
basis of these results, teachers need to apply this method as a way to develop students’
writing skill. Thus, the hypothesis postulated goes hand in hand with the results obtained.
Future research should be done experimentally to test out the applicability of the findings
to a larger population of students. |

Language Sciences AUTHENTIC MODEL ENHANCING STUDENTS |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
Writing is seen as troublesome for EFL learners because it involves them in different complex processes. A language teacher is said to be a guide and a facilitator for the learning process of any foreign language. For that to happen he should make sure that he provides his learners with the appropriate input. The input provided is of great importance because it tends to foster students‟ knowledge about the language components. At that stage the use of any kind of teaching material is said to be crucial and beneficial. Within the writing classroom teachers tend to use print materials because they believe they are the best when it comes to illustrating the conventions of any kind of genre. Print materials can be more beneficial when they are of an authentic nature because authentic model texts are said to illustrate real world language. In this research, it is believed that students learn better the various genres of writing when they are involved in text analysis of authentic model texts. Authentic model texts are then seen as a technique that would improve students‟ genres writing. It is by means of two questionnaires that the investigation took place at the department of English, Mentouri University- Constantine. One questionnaire was devoted to third year students of English and the second questionnaire was devoted to teachers of written expression. The findings gathered in this study confirmed partially the research hypothesis. This means that model texts are important and useful when it comes to genres teaching where as authenticity is not seen as crucia |
