This work has been devoted to the design and characterization of some new heterocyclic nitrogen and sulfur donor ligands derived from quinoline, benz-imidazole and benzothiazole, as well as their coordination complexes. The evaluation of their antibacterial and antioxidant activity was also discussed. The 2-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl) quinoline (BQ), 2-(((1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2- ylmethyl)sulfanyl)methyl)-1H-benzo[d]ligands imidazole (MIMTMB), 2-(((1-methyl-1Himidazol- 2-yl)methyl)sulfanyl)benzo[d]thiazole (MIMTBT), as well as two other ligands previously prepared in the laboratory: The bis((1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)methyl) sulfane (BBMS) and 2-((1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)methylthio)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole (BTMB) react with the chlorides of cobalt (II), zinc (II), manganese (II), mercury (II), lead (II), copper (II), and cadmium (II) to lead to coordination complexes. The structures of the ligands and their complexes have been elucidated by IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV-visible, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structural characterization by RX revealed the complex environment and the stability of the crystal structure by hydrogen bonds and π-π interactions. Theoretical calculations for some complexes were made to understand the geometry and the electronic structure of some compounds. As well as thermogravimetric analyzes that have been performed on some compounds to better understand their behavior and thermal stability. The antibacterial activity of certain ligands and complexes was evaluated against three strains: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. As well as an evaluation of their antioxidant activity (DPPH test).Note de contenu :

The essential oils were extracted by hydrodistillation and cold pressing from two varieties of
Citrus limon: Eureka and Lisbon. Recovered oils were analyzed by GC/MS to identify their constituents. As main results obtained, the extraction yield was greater by hydrodistillation than by cold pressure. The composition of the oils extracted was different but it was characterized by a dominance of monoterpenes, followed by oxygenated monoterpenes and then sesquiterpenes and finally oxygenated sesquiterpenes. High levels of limonene were
recorded (61% - 67%). The antioxidant activity of the extracted oils was evaluated by several tests, namely the test for the inhibition of lipid peroxidation (β-carotene bleaching and the β-carotene qualitative test), the free radical scavenging test (DPPH and ABTS+), the test of the reducing power (CUPRAC and FRAP) and finally the test of the chelating power. The results obtained showed an interesting antioxidant power of Eureka oils extracted by cold pressure compared to other oils. On the other hand, the chelating power was less important for all oils compared with EDTA. The antimicrobial power of the oils was evaluated by two tests to determine the susceptibility of the strains and the microbiological parameters CMI, CMB and CMF. The strains tested are of 15, including 9 bacterial strains (2 Gram positive and 7 Gram negative) and 6 fungal strains. The results showed that all strains are sensitive and the oils have interesting antimicrobial properties. The essential oils of the Eureka variety extracted by cold pressing, having the best antioxidant power, were encapsulated in amorphous silica and then characterized by SEM, ATR and TGA and an evaluation of ther antioxidant power. The results showed a significant encapsulation efficiency of 95.87%. No interaction between oils and SiO2 has been reported. On the other hand, a thermogravimetric resistant of the encapsulated oils was noticed compared to the free oils. The antioxidant activity of essential oils was not changed after encapsulation. Three formulas of light margarine were developed: control margarine (CM), free essential oil margarine (FOM) and encapsulated oils margarine (EOM). A physico-chemical characterization, a determination of the resistance to forced oxidation and sensory analysis
were carried out. The results showed that the physico-chemical characteristics of margarines with essential oils are in accordance with the standards and the pre-established recipe and are not different from those of the control. The EOM showed resistance to forced oxidation comparable to that of the control (CM), however the resistance of the FOM is not interesting. The tasters of the three formulas showed a preference of the FOM, then of the EOM and finally of the CM. Therefore it would be interesting to proceed with the industrial formulation
of a lemon essential oil margarine.

A number of new chalcones containing in their structure a (benz)imidazole nucleus were prepared using a simple aldol-condensation reaction. Addition of hydrazine derivatives to the prepared chalcones led to the formation of a series of new hybrid heterocyclic compounds: imidazole-2-pyrazoline-aryl and imidazole-pyrazole-aryl, via an addition-cyclization reaction. Thus, the addition of hydrazine derivatives such as: semicarbazide, thiosemicarbazide, N2H4.H2O/AcOH) and ArN2H3 to (benz)imidazolic chalcones allowed us to access (Nsubstituted) 2-pyrazolines, while the addition of hydrazine monohydrate led to (NH) 2- pyrazolines. The yields are good or excellent in most cases (50-92%). Some imidazole-pyrazole-aryl derivatives (9 compounds) were also synthesized in
relatively low yields (10-37%), they were obtained following a two steps one-pot reaction: The reaction of 2-acetyl-1-methyl-1H-imidazole with benzoyl chloride derivatives (or naphtoyle chloride) in the presence of LiHMDS, followed by the addition of hydrazine monohydrate Several chalcones (9 compounds) were screened for their anti-proliferative activity against two human cancer cell lines: AGS gastric cancer, A549 lung cells, and a non-cancerous human cell line MRC- 5 (lung), in concentration ranges up to 100 µM. The analysis of the (SAR) of the tested compounds shows the importance of the structural arrangement in the antiproliferative activity. In fact, compounds carrying a (benz)imidazole ring in the position of the carbonyl group (Series 1) have greater toxicity than where the (benz)imidazole ring is directly linked to the carbonyl group (Series 2). Likewise, some chalcones were evaluated for their antibacterial activity against 5 strains (one Gram (+) and four Gram (-)), and the SAR analysis shows that only the compounds of Series 1 exhibited an inhibitory power. Some chalcone were tested for their antioxidant activity using Four complementary methods: DPPH•, ABTS•+, superoxide O2•-, and CUPRAC, but no antioxidant activity was observed for the tested chalcones. On the other hand, some derivatives of 2-pyrazoline, divided into two series: (NH) 2-pyrazolines (7 compounds) and (N-substituted) 2-pyrazolines (5 compounds), and using the same assessment methods, displayed antioxidant activity. The comparative study of the antioxidant power of the two series showed that the (NH) 2-pyrazoline had remarkable antioxidant power clearly higher than that of the (N-substituted) 2-pyrazolines. Likewise, some 2-pyrazoline derivatives have been evaluated for their anti-proliferative activity against the cancer cell lines AGS, A549, and their studied selectivity compared to noncancerous lung cells (MCR5) in concentration ranges up to 100 µM. No activity was observed for all the compounds tested. All the compounds prepared were identified by the usual spectroscopic methods (IR, 1H and 13C NMR) and additional analyses were also carried out (elemental analysis and / or mass spectrometry).
