Speaking Skill Attitudes towards Blended Learning. |
Index. décimale : |

Résumé : |
Language teaching/learning is a large field which involves implementing various strategies
and approaches in order to achieve the learning objectives. Speaking as a language skill
requires students‟ and teachers‟ effort to be developed. Many factors affect Students‟ during
the speaking learning process. Therefore, using a beneficial and a resourceful strategy would
improve students‟ speaking skill. On that account, this study attempts to investigate students‟
and teachers‟ attitudes and standpoints towards the effectiveness of implementing the blended
education to develop students‟ speaking skill. This research is put forward under the
hypothesis that says if teachers considered blended learning as a beneficial approach, they
would use it to improve students‟ speaking skill. The questionnaire is the only used tool to
conduct this investigation. The researcher conducted two questionnaires; one was given to
five (05) Oral Expression teachers and another to twenty nine (29) 2nd year students at the
Department of Letters and the English Language at Fréres Mentouri University, Constantine.
The results of the analysis of the questionnaires do not confirm the hypothesis which says that
if teachers have positive standpoints towards blended learning they will use it in the
classroom. The majority of teachers do not use the blending education in their classes;
however, they clearly show that blended learning motivates students and facilitates the whole
language learning process which will eventually help students to improve their speaking skill. |

Résumé : |
This dissertation is intended to investigate the main problems that third year LMD students at
the University of Constantine 01 face when writing in English. Our main concern was to help
students overcome their difficulties in writing essays. In order to achieve this purpose, a
hypothesis was put forward, that if teachers of written expression provided students with
intensive practice in writing and detailed feedback, the learners ’ability to write would
improve and they would produce more effective essays. To check our hypothesis two
questionnaires were designed one for teachers and the other one for students. The analysis of
the findings reveals that students’ major writing difficulties are related to vocabulary,
spelling, grammar, punctuation, coherence, cohesion and organization and could be overcome
through reading, using dictionaries, group work, practice and corrective feedback. |

Teaching English as a Foreign Language Teacher Talk Learners’ Oral Learners of ‘Fadila |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The present study aims at examining how teachers can create supportive environment that
engages all learners in purposeful learning to opt for promoting interaction amongst
learners themselves, as well as teachers and learners. Thus, this research sets out to
consider the importance of classroom interaction in which learners are given more
opportunities to exert and rehearse language output. To construct our research, two
questionnaires have been distributed to teachers and second year learners in ‘Fadila
Saadane’ high school so as to gather the needed data to be analyzed through descriptive
statistics. In the light of the results obtained, we found that there exists a discrepancy in the
interpretative perception of our teachers and learners populations about length and quality
of classroom talk. Despite the fact that teachers attested that their talk time is not dominant
in the classroom, learners indicated the opposite that it is not adequate in terms of length,
in addition to their learning preferences they would like to have more chances to practice
the language. Results shed light too on how teachers endow with corrective feedback. On
the basis of the results, the hypothesis has been confirmed, in that formal and functional
features of teacher talk promote learners’ interaction. |

Applied Language Studies Year Students Listening Main Difficulties |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
Listening is a complex and a sensitive process especially when it is related to the issue of
teaching English as a foreign language. In view of the fact that less attention is given to this
skill in the real classroom, many obstacles will face students in listening to native speech.
This study is designed to investigate students’ level in listening skill and revealing the
common difficulties they may face while listening to English recordings. Moreover, it aims to
suggest some possible remedies for students’ weaknesses to assist them in enhancing their
listening aptitudes. This research depends on the view that if third year students might have a
low level in the listening skill and that they may face difficulties in dealing with English
recordings. The investigation tools used in this study are two questionnaires directed to both
Oral Expression teachers and third year LMD students, to gather data about listening in
general, besides a test administrated to third year students to assess their listening average
level. The educational settings in which this study took place, is the Foreign Languages
Department, at University 1 of Constantine. The analysis of the obtained results of the tools
used shows that English students have a low average level of listening, and they are facing a
variety of problems in listening to English recordings in particular |

Applied Language Studies Investigation Phatic Communication |
Index. décimale : |
420 Langue anglaise |
Résumé : |
The present research aims at investigating the first year master students‟ of English awareness of the aspects of what is known as phatic communion. The aim of this study, then, is to see whether the students thoroughly conceive the aspects that are tightly adhered to the scope of phatic communion and whether they bear those aspects in mind when engaging in phatic conversations. Because the latter is considered as the spirit of any language, it was chosen as a topic for the study. In order to give consistency to the research, the study was supplemented with a brief investigation about phatic communication and its significance in welding the human relationships. To check the validity of the stated assumption, a test and a questionnaire were distributed to the sample. The results revealed that the students are not aware of the phatic talk to a large extent and do not perceive it. Through the analysis of the results, it has been clear that the students ignore most of the phatic communion‟s aspects presented in this research; they just conceive the notion of phatic communion superficially. It was supposed that the reason behind the students‟ ignorance is the lack of their exposure to phatic communion‟s aspects in their courses of linguistics. Accordingly, they depend on their culture specific behaviours to perform in English situations which worked against the good conversation and led to misunderstanding. |
