by foreign language learners in oral classes. Our work attempted to observe and examine the
different communication strategies used by third year students in the stream of oral
communication. In the light of this, we have hypothesized that if students do not have
problems expressing themselves in a clear and easy way, they will not use paraphrase as a
communication strategy. So, in order to check this, data have been collected through the
administration of an oral test –in the form of an interview- for a group of 20 randomly chosen
third-year students of Language Sciences at the department of English, University of
Constantine. The results have revealed that students have highly used the paraphrase strategy
to express themselves and cope with language difficulties. The results have confirmed our

difficulties for the translator, because he has to adjust the cultural aspects of the source text
with what suits the target culture. For that reason, it was hypothesized that cultural adaptation
might be the most prevailing strategy in the direct translation of this story from English into
Arabic. So, in order to test this hypothesis, a descriptive method has been applied on a
bilingual English-Arabic version of the story. The results have shown that explanation was the
most used strategy by the translator (Amira Kiwan), and not cultural adaptation as we have

The first is “what could be the right amount of reading for first year university students to acquire enough vocabulary for communicating efficiently?”The second is “what is the most effective reading strategy for developing learners‟ vocabulary?”To answer these questions, we adopt a pre-experimental research design where one group of first year university students is pre-tested, given a text to read and then post-tested. The results obtained from the analysis of the data show that learners used some strategies to deal with difficult words in a context. Moreover, they indicate that learners have a high curiosity to look for the meaning of the words, especially when the latter are particularly new and different from what they already know, and they also excite their retention and the attempt to acquire and use them. The findings of this research have various pedagogical implications, particularly for students who are doing extensive reading. In this case, readers find it difficult to use dictionary to check every word. In addition, the teacher is not always available for help; therefore, the best way left to overcome this problem is using some reading strategies. substitution markers. It further attempts to check the extent to which these devices are used
and whether they are applied appropriately in argumentative writings. This research work
takes the case of third- year LMD students at Mentouri University of Constantine. is
stimulated by the fact that grammatical cohesive devices are very significant in argumentative
productions. Students are required to use them to develop their arguments and to show link
between ideas, especially to express opinions, present opposing views, and provide
explanations and details to support their arguments. To achieve the aforementioned aims, a
descriptive study is carried out where data have been collected from fifteen written
productions. The results show that not all the grammatical devices are used to the same extent
by students; that is to say, some of them are widely used, whereas others are less frequently
or rarely applied. Moreover, it is clearly demonstrated that third- year LMD students face
some difficulties in applying these devices correctly; in other words, students tend to use the
