Firstly, it aims to understand what makes Master one students
of English fail to comprehend then acquire idiomatic expressions. Then, to see to what extent
these students are unaware of equivalent and translatable idiomatic expressions. Finally, it
aims to examine their use of simple expressions instead of idiomatic ones. A pre-test was
designed to evaluate students‟ awareness of idioms. Besides, the course‟s purpose is to boost
their knowledge about idioms. After that, the final test will reveal students abilities to provide
a correct translation based on the equivalent substitution from the mother language.The
results of the study show that students‟ awareness of idioms is medium and that they often
tend to avoid using figurative expressions since their meanings are sometimes not clear; they
prefer using effortless simple expressions which are easily produced. Moreover, since the best
translation strategy of rendering an idiom is by using another idiom in the target language,
when the students are aware of both of them, the translation process would be an easy task to
complete a literal translation without considering its restrictions may lead to an awkward and
unnatural translation. On the other hand, the strategy of translating an idiom with a normal,
non- idiomatic expression can be appropriate when there is no correspondence in the target
language. Further results also reveal that there are many interesting cultural similarities and
differences between idiomatic expressions in English and Arabic. The previous results
confirm our hypothesis which is if Master One students of English were exposed to equivalent

Choosing this subject is due to the fact that proverbs are part of metaphorical language: They belong more to the culture of language then to its systematic features. This research attempts to indicate the problems that Master One students encounter in the process of translating English proverbs into Arabic. It points also to the translation strategies used during this process, and certainly suggests some translation strategies that may help students translate proverbs efficiently from English into Arabic. The researchers hypothesized that students will translate proverbs efficiently if they use the appropriate translation strategy. The results obtained show that the students‟ cultural background and their experience and knowledge about translating proverbs from English into Arabic are very limited. The students‟ ability to use of the appropriate strategy is limited and they often fail to find the adequate cultural equivalence, or paraphrase the correct meaning. In addition to that, students find lexical problems when they resort to literal translation. As such, the research hypothesis has not been confirmed. Humour translation then is that transfer but in humorous context. Generally it is considered as
an extremely problematic task within the translation studies.For that reason, this study aims at
investigating the effectiveness of translation strategies proposed by many scholars of humour
translation. In this research, the researcher hypothesized that, in addition to the translator
knowledge of both humour nature and humour cultural reference, the flexible and the various
use of the translation strategies would not unite the people within the context of a single joke
or more appropriately would not solve the untranslatability of humour. Thecurrent work
is divided into two main parts a theoretical and analytical one. In the latter part, the data
collected were culled from two US animations translated in dubbed speech into Arabic Shrek
2 (2004) and Around the World with Timon and Pumbaa into the Egyptian dialect. In both of
them literal translation have been applied most the timesand the most preferred strategy for
translation of irony under the subcategory of universal humour. Therefore, cultural humour
including allusion most cases are either omitted or retained, as a consequence humour is lost
and failed. Thereby pun under the subcategory of linguistic humour are in most cases either
replaced by a non pun in which the humour is totally lost or added to gain new humorous
effect in another place of TT. The translator in such case despite the fact of being flexible in
the use of translation strategies, the untranslatability persists and this is what proves our

polysemous words as, in most cases, it misleads them to choose the right equivalents, due to
the fact that they are not accompanied with examples that show the learner the use of each
